My Philosophy

I have spent the past 20 years creating a system of teaching that helps people to improve their self confidence and self esteem. This is completely opposite of the traditional thinking in martial arts that worked hard to eliminate students until only the best remained. Old school instructors also focus on fighting and believe that is all that is important – completely ignoring the mind and spirit.

I realized a long time ago that a “bad” instructor will put the burden of learning on the student. They would say things like, “When you can show me this requirement, I will consider promoting you in rank.” Can you imagine going to school and the teacher tossing a book in your lap and saying, “Learn everything in this book and then I will test you.” You would not accept that – and I don’t think martial arts should be any different.

I have made it my mission to become a Master Teacher and that the burden of learning the martial arts is mine – AND NOT the student! If I explain a technique one way and the student does not understand it, it is MY responsibility to find another way to explain it. If the student still does not understand, I have to find yet another way to explain it. I have to reach the student so they can learn.

If a student does not pass a test, it is not their fault – it is MINE! I did not teach them well enough to be prepared for the exam. Try blaming your karate instructor for not passing a test at any other program and you just may be taking your life in your hands. Karate instructors tend to be very arrogant in their thinking and take offense to anyone challenging their skill. I welcome questions and in fact, I have parents consult me regularly to help them with a concern or challenge they are having with their child’s behavior.

I have created a specific path of success that students take. I can show you specific examples of how I work to improve a character skill in my students. Ask any other karate instructor, “How will your class improve my self confidence?” and you will be met with a blank stare……ask me and I will show you a blueprint that has worked for hundreds of my students time and time again.
